  How our currency system works is no big secret, nor the fact that the Federal Reserve is a private entity. Having a currency backed by the gold standard will not work in our current global economy. One of the reasons President Nixon took us off the gold currency was that other nations were converting our dollars to gold. In other words, we had to send our gold to those countries.
  

  The system we have in place is also what allows small business and big business have access to currency for R&D, expansion, and growth. Though I do believe the system is rigged, I do ask when such videos are posted, is what is your alternative?

  I think a bigger problem to the wealth gap in our society is our tax system and the handling of inherited wealth.

  Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?

  i think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.

  he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.

  many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

  For those that think he will be killed in general population or by prisoners, need to realize he was tried in a federal court. He will be given a federal sentence, either death or life in prison. In federal prison he more than likely will spend 23 hours in a personal cell.

  There was a Watchtower study on sexual abuse of minors. I remember commenting on it at a meeting. It was between 1990-1996.

  Active posters: What education have you had, what degrees do you possess?

  from so many posts and conversations on here, you'd think over 1/2 the posters here possess doctorates in theology, physics, biology, etc.

  i'm curious aside from the books and research people have done here, what degrees they have.

  to start, i just got an aa and going straight through full time to an mba.

  I disagree. Although it can be true. The problem is that where are they getting their reading material? Is it an accredited source of information?

  I was mainly referencing non-professional undergraduate degrees.To complete a BS degree at a state university in a variety of fields is not exactly difficult. It just requires a time commitment at least in the USA. To receive a liberal arts degree in history doesn't make you any more qualified or educated in history, than a person who is well read. A professional degree in accounting, engineering, medicine, nursing, ect.. is a different scenario. Most of the topics I read here is in relations to philosophy, religion, biology, and evolution. I don't expect many of our posters to have PHd in those fields.

  she passed faithful to the end to them!

  just found out (second hand of course) and by someone on here that my faithful jw mum passed away within the last couple of days, dont know the exact day, and what cause, she spent the last few years living with my fanatical sister, she was 65 and survived my father by 10 years, bitter, angry and hateful till the end and never as so much enquired or asked how her 2 grandchildren ever were , they are 5 and 7!

  feeling a mixture of emotions right now, they were lousy parents in all honesty, she suffered health wise so maybe its for the best, dont even know when the funeral is!

  Sorry to hear/read on several levels. So many on this board have had similar stories. Makes me appreciate that my mom is not a fanatical witness, and my father never became one.

  Associate Arts Degree, State College of Florida

  Bachelor of Science Business Administration, University of South Florida

  Bachelor of Science Health Informatics, Western Governor University (I have 11 units left, and two internship requirements remaining) ~ January 2016
  

  I start on my BSN program this August at USF. I plan to complete a Masters around 2019 in acute care.

  I also have 7 certifications in Information systems and Health care.

  Though I think credentials are important and add weight to a person's argument, I also think a well read person with life experience is just as qualified. For example, I don't know cofty's education, but he knows more about evolution, abiogenesis, religion, and philosophy than me, even though I've taken multiple college level biology courses. He is well read from what I can tell. Though I don't agree with him on some points or others on this board, I don't dismiss them because of some lack of college degree.

  I Should Have Just Kept Avoiding Their Videos

  i have a 2011 new year resolution to avoid reading jw literature or watch their videos.i am not "religious" about it, and will watch/read excerpts, but pretty much stick with that resolution as it only angers me when i read the stuff.. well, someone posted their video of philippines disaster relief due to a 2013 typhoon as a response to a news article to demonstrate that they are not really helping and that it is just propaganda.

  i watched the video and was immediately able to see what the hell is wrong with jw's and their leadership and, as i figured- i was angered.. so i will post this link, but then go back to not watching/reading.

  it just isn't worth it.. in the video, when they knew the storm was coming, the pre-planned disaster relief people texted elders to warn them to evacuate.

  I wouldn't place much blame on the Witnesses for the deaths. I live in Florida for the last 38 years, and experienced many hurricanes. I also been in the Philippines: Cebu, Manila, and Bohol. There is a huge difference between the two countries. The infrastructure in the Philippines are horrible, mainly from government corruption, but I won't get into that. When a major typhoon hits there really isn't too many evacuation options for the Filipinos. This observation was validated by my wife and her family, who are Filipino.
  

  They can go inland, but if you look at the death tolls many were from mudslides off the mountains, and several died in shelters (school buildings and other government buildings). Remember the Philippines is a collection of islands, and death by Typhoon is a fact of life there. With that being said, I've seen the GB/WT exploit disasters, and this is another example. I just don't place too much blame on them for any of the deaths.

  Patient dies as JW paramedic refuses to administer blood product -- thanks, Religious Freedom Act!

  (i realize this topic may have already been addressed so i apologize in advance.).

  no, that's not a real headline but i suppose it could be one here in arkansas -- one of several states in the us that has a religious freedom law on their books.. as i understand it, if i, as a jw paramedic, am ordered to deliver a blood product to my patient, i can refuse to do so based on my religious freedom.

  as a logical consequence, a patient could die.. would paramedic be an occupation be that one of jehovah's witnesses simply cannot accept, knowing fully well that you would be in a likely position to administer blood..

  I'm not a lawyer or paralegal. In business school I was required to take three law courses: Business Law, Civil Procedures, and Constitutional Law. All three were basically survey type courses, where we focused on case law. I do recall, not sure which course, of various cases that prohibit Health Care workers in the USA not to preform life saving procedures based on religious beliefs. I do recall also where a Catholic Pharmacist was fired for not dispensing contraceptives and the courts backed the employer.
  

  Growing up as a witness there was a RN in our congregation that was married to an Elder. She helped in the administration of blood at the hospital.

  i watched some of the segments on the jw broadcast.

  in the video they showed how they managed their inventory orders for the congregations.

  at the conclusion it was stated by the narrator how god is speeding up the work.. the problem is the system they implemented has been used for over two decades in logistics.

  The problem is the system they implemented has been used for over two decades in Logistics. There inventory management system is very similar to Amazon, Walmart, and Target. They've been lagging for more than two decades and then claim God is speeding up the work.

  What they really are doing is making their logistics more efficient to lessen labor hours.
